Parenting is satisfying, yet cramping. It brings out the best and the worst in a person. Through parents, children learn about the world beyond home.

Parents do everything possible, from trying various parenting hacks, attending positive parenting workshops, to raising the kids well.

Any good parent wants their kids to stay out of trouble, do well in academics, excel in sports and go on to become a groomed adult.

But, in the end, everything boils down to the kind of relationship a parent shares with the child, along with the upbringing they have given.

Unsurprisingly, much of it comes down to the parents.

Throughout the circus act of parenting, for balancing out the priorities, modern parents scroll down the entire internet but end up in running towards every direction. It’s hard to know whom or what to trust.

And while there isn’t a set recipe for raising successful children, So, how can one strengthen the parent-child relationship? The delving encountered us with someone who turned out to be the panacea to our every dubiety.

A lady of clean lines, she feels most thrilled when happy parents hug her and acknowledge her for clearing their qualms and puzzled minds. Every parent’s betterment adds more feathers in her entrepreneurial cap.

She is none other than the leading lady of WPA whatparentsask.com, Dr Debmita Dutta. “I have been a practising doctor for close to twenty years now so I have always been treating illness.

But around 10 years ago – I realized that it wasn’t enough to solve problems (physical or emotional) after they start disrupting your life.

It is important to prevent problems from arising.

Around the same time, it dawned on me that the reason most parents were struggling with parenting was because of an “expectation mismatch” between what the child could do at a certain age – and what the parent was expecting.

I realized that – the only way to prevent problems in parenting – would be to educate parents about the growing brain and body and what the needs of the growing brain and body were, at different ages and different stages.

I realized that understanding their child would lead to parents making decisions with empathy.

And that would eliminate the expectation mismatch. So, building empathy through education became my mission.

And that’s how I scripted my entrepreneurial journey.

There are many channels now- but the goal remains the same – to ensure that parenting is a journey full of love and happiness instead of fear and guilt.

The Beginning

For me, the gap between deciding and doing is always a gap of a few moments only.

One fine day I decided that I would start a website where parents could have their parenting questions answered by experts – and by the next day, I was on the lookout for a team that would make it happen.

And in the next few weeks, we had everything in place and going.

For me, the real struggle was understanding the digital space – because I walked in with absolutely no knowledge in the area.

But, with the right people – who believed in my dream, made the journey worth sharing. What I never struggled with – was content.

My audience kept asking for more – they provided the topics and I always had the right experts on hand to answer their questions.

Trail-blazing as a women entrepreneur

On recounting my experiences so far – I would have to say that at every step I have only met people who have respected me for my ability – my dream and my determination to work hard and make my dream come true.

Also, my cosmopolitan upbringing, my ability to learn languages and absorb and follow different cultural norms has helped me tremendously.

I was brought up to be excited and enthusiastic about diversity and I was taught to be polite patient kind and inclusive at all times.

And this has helped me tremendously in the professional space.

Of course, at times I have wished that the world was a safer space – that I did not have to worry about travelling alone or going to certain places at certain times.

But so far, I have been able to work through these challenges and I hope that will always be the case.

What challenges have you faced and how did you overcome them?

One of the main challenges has of course been funds.

To deliver beyond expectations and turn my audience into my champions In the end, I believe it is all about people; Me – my team – my audience.

I have always banked on people and that has ensured that I don’t have to worry about how much I have in my pockets.

What charges you up every day?

My medical work is my reality check. when you know how short and unpredictable life can be – you learn to savour every moment and every emotion.

I am a proud wife of an army person so keeping everyone’s spirits high comes naturally to me.

My daughter is the person who always pushes me when I am about to give up.

I ensure that I communicate with my family so that they are my champions instead of being obstacles.

I always remind myself that it is the journey that I am enjoying – the destination is not important.
