After rolling down the new AMG GLE 53 Coupe earlier this month, the German Automobile company Mercedes-Benz has launched its the Coupe version of the standard GLE SUV, in India starting at ₹1.20 crore (ex-showroom, India, except Kerala).

Mercedes-Benz GLE 53 AMG 4MATIC Plus Coupe, the second generation of the GLE Coupe arrives as a replacement for the first-gen GLE 43 Coupe that was on sale in India. Also, making it the first ‘53’ badged model to launch in India. 

Speaking at the launch, Santosh Iyer, Vice-President, Sales & Marketing, Mercedes-Benz India, said: 

The launch of the AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupe is a strategic decision aimed at strengthening our AMG portfolio by introducing the much-awaited ‘AMG 53 series’ in India.

The AMG portfolio is one of the fastest-growing segments for us and the addition of the ’53 series’ will further popularise the segment.

The AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupe offers more power and enhanced driving experience for the customers and it is the successor of the outgoing AMG GLE 43 in India.

This new performance SUV Coupe will also diversify our successful GLE portfolio by catering to those AMG customers aspiring for a practical and stylish performance SUV Coupe from the all-new GLE range 

What’s new? 

The all-new Mercedes-Benz GLE 53 AMG 4MATIC Plus Coupe is larger than its predecessor, having a 20mm longer wheelbase. However, the new GLE Coupe inherits some common design elements with the standard GLE.  

The new model has got a sportier design details with a vertical-slat Panamerica AMG grille, at the front which helps to differentiate the high-performance SUV with the standard model, Side skirts, 21-inch alloy wheels, turbo badging on the front fenders, and an AMG exhaust.  

Other differences include B-pillar onwards, with a flowing, coupe-like roofline and distinctive rear end, AMG exhaust tailpipes with an integrated spoiler. 

Color Palette to choose from 

Brilliant Blue, Cavansite Blue, Emerald Green, Hyacinth Red, Mojave Silver, Obsidian Black, Polar White and Selenite Grey 

Interiors 

The new Mercedes AMG GLE 53 Coupe covers elements such as carbon-fibre inserts, contrast stitching, a flat-bottom steering wheel in the cabin and a dual-tone theme for a refreshing feel.

The spotlight goes on the 12.3-inch dual screens, running on Merc’s latest MBUX system.

The model also has a 6-way adjustable powered rear seat, autonomous emergency braking, 360-degree camera, a head-up display, and 13-speaker, 590W Burmester sound system. 

The company also claims about 650 litres of boot space that can expand to 1,800 litres with the rear seats folded 

Engine & Performance 

The new Mercedes AMG GLE 53 Coupe has a 3.0-litre, twin-turbo, straight-six-cylinder petrol engine, fine-tuned to pump off 435 hp and 520 Nm of peak torque.

The high-performance SUV also gets a 48V mild-hybrid system (EQ Boost) which further adds 22 hp and 250 Nm of torque when accelerated hard. 

Alongside, the new model has got the brand’s 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system along with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

All this together helps the car to do the 0-100 km/h sprint in just 5.3 seconds and flat out it could attain a top speed of 250 km/h which is electronically limited. 

The Merc Kit

The GLE 53 Coupe’s cabin gets some AMG-specific touches as well, such as the AMG front seats and stainless-steel pedals, to name a few.

One can choose from the two upholstery options to personalize the cabin with.

The GLE 53 Coupe also features some AMG-specific upgrades, including a sportier air suspension setup, adaptive dampers and uprated brakes to handle the additional power. 

A head-up display, four-zone climate control, wireless phone charger, 64-colour ambient lighting, connected car tech with remote engine start, a 13-speaker Burmester sound system, heated and ventilated front seats with memory function and four-way lumbar support, a panoramic sunroof and powered tailgate.

There’s also an optional Night Package that adds darkened cosmetic elements.   

The AMG performance exhaust system allows the driver to choose how much sound is produced.

The GLE 53 Coupe also comes with Merc’s Active Ride Control system, which can reduce body roll during cornering and improve ride when required. 

Others included in the package are Nine airbags, a blind spot monitor, a 360-degree camera, ESP and adaptive LED headlights.
