Are we heading towards another global recession or human
rights extinction?
“We just got through a crisis like no other with the pandemic,
and we are now in an even more shocking territory. The
unthinkable happened — we have a war in Europe.”
- Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director - IMF
An economy that was just healing from the Coronavirus Pandemic got another
shock from the Ukraine-Russia War. From oils and gas to metals and other
commodities, everything becoming a grave concern for many countries.
Rising inflation and weak currencies are just the tip of an iceberg that
is about to bring a Tsunami across the world.
The onward journey for the world economy appears to be cloudy. The world
is yet to find a way to adjust the supply cuts from Ukraine and Russia. Despite
India’s neutral stand in the Ukraine-Russia war, it cannot cart off the war’s
impact on its economic growth. The export-import invoices of the country
will be hit since India relies on oils and gas imports from Russia and buys 70%
of its sunflower oil from Ukraine, the world’s largest producer of sunflower oil.
India’s tea export volumes may see a fall as Russia imports nearly 18%
of its tea from India. Alongside, ‘Potash’ the ingredient used in fertilizers
manufacturing could see a push in the prices as Belarus and Russia lead
as the key suppliers of potash in the global market.
More than anything, it’s the human race that is suffering from serious harm.
Will there be accountability for the lives we have lost and are losing
every day in the war?
When did human rights abuses become cakewalk?
