                                                      FROM THE

                                      India in its darkest days!!
I am, at a loss of words to capture or articulate the tragedy of a country

that is engaged in a war – the war of ultimate survival. The second wave
of COVID-19 in India has exposed the band-aids applied to cover the sore
wounds of the first wave. The governance words are not enough to feed the
empty eyes of the hunted ones. India is fighting for its breath, as the vapour
from the crematorium chokes the sky.

I am sure, the images of this struggle will forever haunt our lives.
Our tendency to ignore the initial symptoms and reach out for healthcare
when our situation deteriorates has been one of the major contributors to
India’s loss in fighting against the second wave.
It was too early to declare India being in the endgame of the COVID-19
pandemic by India’s health minister Harsh Vardhan. Additionally the elections
in India’s five states which witnessed ignorance of COVID-19 protocols, safety
measures became the germinating phase for the virus, which could have been
                            postponed, otherwise.
People are crying for help to arrange beds, medicines, oxygen, essential medi-
cations and tests. Drugs and oxygen are being sold in the black market, and
test results are taking longer than normal. Mortuaries are overflowing, ambu-
lances are queued up. During these times, India hosted the world’s most famous
Indian Premier League and the Kumbh Mela and the government put all its plan
to strengthen the healthcare infrastructure in the closed drawers.

India is yet to witness more such public health crises and hence, it becomes
necessary to take the lessons and work accordingly.

We can, at our end, at least make sure, that we are following proper safety
protocols and wearing a mask to ensure our and our loved one’s safety.

Is it too much to ask for?
                            Stay Safe
                            This too shall pass.
