Forecasted to reach US$ 12 billion by 2025, at a CAGR of 22%, India has
firmed its position among the top 12 destinations for biotechnology world-
wide. The Biotech industry of the country homes around 5000 biotech
companies, with 4,240 being start-ups and 760 being core biotech compa-
nies, with the number of startups expected to touch 10,000 by 2024.
As per IBEF reports, the country is also the world’s third-largest
producer of recombinant Hepatitis B vaccine and second-largest
producer of BT cotton (genetically modified pest resistant plant cotton).
In true sense, India’s biotechnology advancement is an assortment of entre-
preneurship, innovation, indigenous talent development and value-based
care demonstrations. Accustomed to its history of Indian diseases, India
has accumulated many years of experience and scientific knowledge to
prevent and treat them. The biotech industry and startups stand committed
to revitalizing the biotechnology sector through various flagship programs
and discoveries. An essential step to increase the number of biotech-
nology incubators will further boost research and drive startup growth.
